After the hustle and bustle [and a great boat show]

Posted by Marc  Published in Boating

of a busy weekend I got to go boating on Sun. My friend Brad and I took his 20 foot bay boat out and were thinking the weather might allow us a trip out to the nearshore reefs [12-15 miles]  . We loaded everything from six pound Pompano rigs to medium spinning gear to off shore bottom winches , a footlong subway sandwich, beverages and sunscreen, some squid and assorted minnows , and off we went . We got to the pass and it seemed iffy ,there is always that anticipation of whether to believe the forecast, but we wanted to get offshore badly so we went . It turned out to be a gorgeous day and we were able to catch a few bottom fish as well as king mackerel on a 10 Lb spinning outfit . That is a lot of fun and the fish were relatively small so our minimum yearly dose of Mercury was kept to a minimum . Came home with the wind and made pretty good time , and picked up my wife and out Labrador and headed to the sandbar . After throwing the tennis ball hundreds of time and washing the boat in the fresh river water was done , we went home cleaned a fresh fish and grilled it .

Not once during the day did I think about the economy , fuel prices , or anything other than how good it felt to be out there for a full day on the water . Boating is what I like to do and I like many types of boating . We managed to fit a couple types in yesterday and I realized that the boating industry may be in a slowdown , but I will never stop enjoying my time on the water , and I suspect Im not alone in these thoughts .

See ya on the water ,

Marc
