We went out on my friend Todds 32 Twin Vee and had planned to go after a few bottom fish in the A.M and troll at 8-10 Kts for wahoo in the afternoon . We we got a couple grouper and some rock bass for the table , we reconfirmed the over population of red snapper and the bad science that id driving the new regulations .
Them we went off past the empire Mica to where wahoo are commonly caught in the warmer months . Saw all the correct sign including bonito, mackerels and bait , flying fish and a few weed lines forming , so we trolled some little rattle jets for dolphin and some big Yozuri Bonitos for wahoo . We saw a lot of birds and the weeds were starting to get a little more organized so we stated chasing birds . Found one paddy with dolphin and bonito under . Missed the dolphin but got a couple bonito . On we trolled and then we had a big strike on the big lure . It was a Yozuri imitator and the lure never ran right after that . we had one more big strike and fouled the lure again . Needless to say we switched back to the genuine article and it ran right but the fish were done biting till another day . We went back towards the Mica to see what was on the wreck and tried that for a while . Then it was tome to head for the hill . I aimed the big Twin Vee towards St George Island and we got to the dock at Scipio Creek Marina just after dark . A great day on the water with some good friends ! And a much needed day away from Cell Phones,Business,News and such.My kind of therapy ……
