No way , I still like to find a topic that utilizes more than 140 characters of our language and has an audience that may consider and appreciate some randomly connected and perhaps spurious/serious thoughts . Ill make up a sort of “real Life” scenario . It has really nothing to do with Twitter.
So I get an e mail response to a boat we have consigned to sell[ I get plenty of these E Mails these days] and its the old fairly lowball offer routine .Perhaps I am feeling alot of pressure to plan for the cold, cold winter , or maybe Just tired of almost everything being a negotiation. But just maybe I snapped a little. The offer was 23k and the boat was listed for $27999.00
“Its a consignment and that is pretty far below the owner’s expectations and its current book value. And if you think about it, instead of watching TV I am paying attention to my business at 9;30 P.M. That offer would leave me out of even a nominal commission.I don’t do this as a hobby , as you most likely don’t participate in your vocation as a hobby either. So, with that in mind , consider this a polite no” . That was my response .
I get an answer quickly that said ” thanks for the reality check , I have to start somewhere”
It made me think about how I responded the the offer.
I was prepped for the buyer to tell me all the reasons the boat was worth so much less that the book value and all the better deals he could and he didn’t , and didn’t press the point .
What I did was simply say I would speak with the owner and get back to him with the true bottom line. Take it or leave it . Hope he gets it .
